Alexander Nyarko (born October 15, 1973) is a former Ghanaian football player.

Football career

Nyarko started his career at Ghana, and then joined his first European team -FC Basel and then Karlsruher SC in Germany. He finally settled in RC Lens, played two seasons, and in 2000 joined Everton FC for £4.5M, signed a contract until June 2005. He is infamous for an incident during the 2001/2002 season where during a game against Arsenal a fan came on the pitch and offered him his black shirt, signalling that Nyarko wasn't good enough to wear the colours of Everton. After the fan was escorted by police, Nyarko requested to be substituted and transferred. Eventually, he went on loan to French giant AS Monaco FC just days later for the rest of the season and then had a loan spell at Paris Saint-Germain for the entire 2002-03 season.

He returned to Everton for the 2003-04 season and made another 11 appearances for the Merseyside club, but was released after the season because his work permit expired and could not be renewed.

He then spent 6 months out of football, and joined I.K. Start in the 2005 winter league.

He became unattached again after the season, and then joined Swiss team Yverdon-Sport FC in June 2006.

He was released again in December 2007.

International career

He was capped for Ghanaian Olympic team at 1992 Summer Olympics, and won bronze medal.

He also played for Ghana in 1998 and 2000 African Cup of Nations.
