University City High School (St. Louis)

University City High School is located in University City, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis. As of 2006, 1,103 students were enrolled at the school.

Notable alumni include playwright Tennessee Williams; writer Harold Brodkey; broadcaster Dave Garroway; historians Elizabeth Blackmar and Samuel Moyn; major league baseball pitchers Ken Holtzman and Robert Person and outfielders Art Shamsky and Bernard Gilkey; St. Louis Cardinals GM Bing Devine, St. Louis Cardinals former director of Public Relations Marty Hendin, Disney animator Marlon West; pianist Malcolm Frager; cellist Leslie Parnas; jazz musicians Jeremy Davenport, Marty Ehrlich [ [http://www.riverfronttimes.com/1999-06-09/calendar/lion-tamers/ Lion Tamers, page 1 - Calendar - Riverfront Times - Riverfront Times ] ] , Todd Williams, and Peter Martin [Brown Jr., Sylvester, "It'll be great St. Louis jazz- and it'll be in St. Louis", St. Louis Post-Dispatch, January 25, 2007, Section C, page 1.] ; sculptor Saunders Schultz; journalist and economist Edward Hadas; and rapper Nelly.

Former longtime U. City football coach Stub Muhl played with Red Grange on the great University of Illinois football team of 1924. The U. City High football team is led by Coach Duane Hawthorne, a former player for the National Football League’s San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys.
