John Edgar Clapp (July 17, 1851 - December 18, 1904), nicknamed "Honest John", was a professional baseball catcher and manager. Clapp was a strong hitter, by the standards of the time, ranking among his league's leaders in on-base percentage three times and slugging percentage once. He led the National League in games played in 1878, and in walks in 1881. He was also extremely difficult to strike out, fanning a grand total of six times from 1872-1876.

Clapp died at age 53 in Ithaca due to apoplexy. [cite web| title = Too Young to Die | work = TheDeadBallEra.com | url=http://www.thedeadballera.com/tooyoung.html | accessdate = 2006-10-10 ] He was interred at the Lake View Cemetery in Ithaca.
