The hoary catshark, "Apristurus canutus", is a cat shark of the family Scyliorhinidae found in the western central Atlantic from the Leeward Islands off Antigua and Anguilla, at depths of between 500 and 1,000 m. Its length is up to 46 cm.

The hoary catshark is a little-known deepwater catshark found on the insular slopes. It has a broad flattened head, a rounded snout, and large nostrils. The first dorsal fin is much smaller than the second. There is a very large elongated anal fin separated from an elongated caudal fin by a small notch.

Coloration is dark grey with blackish fin margins.

Reproduction is oviparous.
