The Struma Motorway is a planned motorway which will lead from the Daskalovo junction 5 km away from Sofia to the Bulgarian border Kulata with Greece. The built section is about 25 km of very high-quality road in motorway standards. There were chosen very shiny crash barriers to improve the vision of the motorway and to keep the brilliance for a long time. The tarmac is very smooth and has very high quality. The section was constructed by the respected company Mavrovo Skopie which also constructed important roads, bridges and buildings in other countries in all of Europe.

Unfortunately the new sections are not being constructed yet because Bulgaria has problems with receiving the European funds; some of which are planned for the construction of the Struma motorway. The construction of the other Struma motorway sections is planned to start at the beginning of 2009 but since the current Bulgarian government is in a bad position the given date for the start of construction isn´t clear. Bulgaria needs the construction of the other sections of the Struma motorway since the traffic volume is increasing and the current E-79 national road, although of very good quality is not enough to provide a fluent and save traffic flow, especially in the future. The road has to be of very high quality because a high amount of the vehicles using it are trucks.
