Radio New Zealand International (RNZI) is the official international broadcasting station of New Zealand.

It is New Zealand's only shortwave station, broadcasting to the Island nations of the Pacific. His broadcasts cover from Papua New Guinea in the west across to French Polynesia in the east, covering all South Pacific countries in between. His signal can also be heard in Europe and North America.

RNZI broadcasts news, current affairs, business, and sports programmes. Feature programmes include a Pacific business programme - TradeWinds, a regional current affairs show - Dateline Pacific, and a weekly programme for sports lovers.

RNZI also relays Radio New Zealand’s domestic service Radio New Zealand National, which includes the programmes Checkpoint, Late Edition and Morning Report. Sports commentaries of major events are also broadcast.

While broadcasting mainly in English, it also carries news in seven Pacific languages, making it of the most listened to stations throughout the South Pacific.

As well as direct broadcasts on the shortwave band, some local Pacific Island radio stations rebroadcast selected items such as news and weather.

His studios are located in Radio New Zealand House, Wellington, New Zealand. The transmitter can be found at Rangitaiki in the middle of the North Island.

In 1998 and again in 2000 RNZI won a Commonwealth Broadcasting Association's Rolls-Royce Award for Excellence.

Mission

Radio New Zealand International will be a friendly, trusted voice, talking with listeners in neighbouring South Pacific countries and elsewhere about life in our country and region, the things we can offer, and the parts we can play in Pacific and world affairs.

To earn and keep the interest and respect of listeners, RNZI will:

*maintain programme and editorial policies which follow the traditions of public *broadcasting, and ensure honest and impartial treatment to listeners and contributors;
*advance overseas an appreciation of the mana of New Zealand and the value placed by her people on ideals of democracy, equality and freedom;
*reflect the diverse cultures, activities and achievements of New Zealanders, acknowledging the central part played in our heritage and future by the tangata whenua;
*provide accurate and objective news and information programming, concentrating on matters of relevance to Pacific listeners, and setting in context domestic and regional reports;
*promote the attractions of our country and the quality of our products and services;
*encourage and expand links and understanding between New Zealand her South Pacific neighbours, and the world community;
*feature wherever possible the words, songs and music of New Zealand.

Awards

At a function of the Association for International Broadcasting in London, November 2007, RNZI was declared the International Radio Station of the Year award, ahead of the likes of the BBC World Service.

The station was praised for its ability and clarity of vision to deliver something that’s valued by audiences throughout the region.

Radio New Zealand International has also won the award for Most Innovative Partnership.
