This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen

This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen

"This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen," also known as "Ladies and Gentlemen, to the Gas Chamber," is a collection of short stories by Tadeusz Borowski.(Original title "Pożegnanie z Marią" - "Farewell to Maria".)

A Polish Communist, Borowski was a resistor against the Nazis during World War II, and was incarcerated at the notorious Auschwitz death camp where he was put to work as a kapo. In searing, satiric prose Borowski details what life and death were like in the Nazi concentration camps. It also reflects his guilt for being a Kapo (a prisoner who helped the Nazis maintain order and received, in return, better living conditions, food, and parcels from home.)
