footnotes = HE Kennan Adeang (born 1942) is a Nauruan political figure and was President of the Republic of Nauru during a number of short periods of office in the 1980s.

Family

His son, David Adeang, has served as Foreign Minister of Nauru and served briefly as Speaker of the Parliament of Nauru in March - April 2008, having previously maintained a sometimes chequered association with the Nauru First Party, which, however, had yet to be founded during Kennan Adeang's periods of Presidential office.

President of Nauru (1st & 2nd terms)

Kennan Adeang served twice as President of Nauru in 1986: in September-October of that year and again briefly in December. It may be noted that Nauru's parliamentary system makes it easy for a head of state's term of office to be frequently brought to an end; this may partly account for the termination of Adeang's first two short periods of Presidential office.

President of Nauru (3rd term)

Kennan Adeang assumed the Presidency of Nauru again in November-December of 1996, before relinquishing the office once again.

Political alignment

In Adeang's periods of political office he was regarded as an opponent of veteran Nauruan politician Hammer DeRoburt.

While in Opposition following his second period of Presidential office, Adeang founded and led the Democratic Party of Nauru, which was seem as a focal point for legislators and their supporters who wanted to maintain independence from the influence of DeRoburt.
