Barbian ( _it. Barbiano) is a "comune" (municipality) in the province of Bolzano-Bozen in the Italian region Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, located about 70 km northeast of Trento and about 15 km northeast of Bolzano. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,538 and an area of 24.4 km².All demographics and other statistics: Italian statistical institute Istat.]

Barbian borders the following municipalities: Kastelruth, Lajen, Waidbruck, Ritten, and Villanders.

The city is mentioned for the first time in 994 as "Parpian", the name deriving probably from the Latin person mane "Barbius" [cite book|title=Nomi d'Italia|location=Novara|publisher=Istituto Geografico De Agostini|year=2004] .
