Barry Slotnick

Barry Slotnick is a New York defense attorney, in part known for obtaining an acquittal of the New York City resident Bernard Goetz on attempted murder and assault charges related to his shooting of assailant Darrell Cabey in 1984.

Originally an appellate attorney, Slotnick eventually branched out into high-profile criminal cases that garnered national media attention. In addition to defending Bernard Goetz he has also represented former Democratic Congressman Mario Biaggi, as well as Vyacheslav Kirillovich Ivankov, who was accused by the United States Department of Justice of being a pivotal boss within the Russian mafia.

Recently, he has acted as counsel for Army Captain Jay J. Ferriola, who sued the federal government in order to prevent his deployment to Iraq. The Department of Defense later allowed Ferriola to retire from the Army, and the case was subsequently dropped.

Currently, Slotnick is a partner in Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC. Before joining that firm in 2005 he led Slotnick, Shapiro & Crocker LLP, which he had founded and been a part of for the preceding four decades.

Slotnick has been a member of the New York Governor's Judicial Selection Committee, Chairman of the New York State Bar Association's Committee on Capital Crimes, and a former Special Deputy Attorney General.

Barry Slotnick holds a B.A. from City College of the City University of New York, and a Juris Doctor from New York University Law School.
