Traditions

Traditions at Bishop Kenny High School include "Fish Fry", a kind of hazing of freshmen. The "fry" occurs on the Friday of Homecoming week, and may include pranks such as throwing flour and drawing fish on freshman, known as "fish". Hazing is generally stopped before any damage can occur. Homecoming week also signals a week of accessorizing the uniform in a daily themed schedule, which may include "Geeky Day", "College Colors", and "Color Your Class". Class colors are voted on by student government, but typically remain: freshmen - yellow, sophomores - orange, juniors - blue, seniors - pink. Other traditions include athletic events with rival The Bolles School, freshly baked Otis Spunkmeyer cookies daily, Cheesey Night (a comedy show), Yearbook Presents, and best of all, Fiesta Bar. Yearbook Presents is a ticket-only event held during the final week of senior classes which not only presents appearances by the drumline, awarding of superlatives, a teacher performed skit imitating the most popular seniors, and a slideshow of senior baby pictures. Fiesta Bar is served every Wednesday in the 3rd and 2nd lunch lines and has divided the student population in half: one half chippers (chips with fiesta topping on top) and one half Bowlers (taco bowl with fiesta toppings inside the bowl).
