Serracapriola is a town and "comune" in the province of Foggia, in the Apulia region of southeast Italy.

Geography

The town is bordered by Chieuti, Lesina, Rotello, San Martino in Pensilis, San Paolo di Civitate andTorremaggiore.

Notes and references

The town of Serracapriola derives its name from Siera (Mountain) and Capri (Deer). Folklore describes how two hunters tracking a fawn through the hills, came across the fawn on the mountin top. The hunters observed the fawn knealing in front of the vision of the Virgin Mary. When they returned to tell of their observations people began to migrate to the area and formed the town.The earliest confirmed date establishing Serracapriola as a town dates to the 980's AD.
