State Route 88, also known as SR 88 or Apache Trail, is a state highway in central Arizona.

Route description

SR 88 travels east from its junction with U.S. Route 60 in Apache Junction northeast to its junction with State Route 188 at Roosevelt Dam. It roughly follows the route of the Salt River, and between Tortilla Flat and Roosevelt Dam, is an unpaved, winding mountain road that largely dates from the 1930s.

History

Prior to the construction of State Route 87, the Apache Trail (along with SR 188) served as the main road north from Phoenix to Payson. SR 88 formerly extended further east to Globe; this stretch of Apache Trail is now part of SR 188.
