Highland Museum of Childhood

Highland Museum of Childhood

The museum was founded by Angela Kellie as a dolls museum in her house in Strathpeffer, Scotland. It later moved to the old railway station and was renamed the Highland Museum of Childhood and now embraces a wider range of exhibits.

The museum tells the story of childhood in the Highlands and Islands amongst hardworking crofters and townsfolk, where money and luxuries were scarce and life followed the rhythm of the seasons. A way of life recorded by oral testimony, displays, and photographs taken at a time before the camera was commonplace.

The museum is an independent registered museum run by a charitable trust. Most of the staff are volunteers.
