History

For decades, CGF has successfully opposed development of the foothills, forests, and coasts of the San Francisco Peninsula that are inconsistent with its standards and considered "inappropriate" by the organization.

CGF was founded in 1962 by a group of concerned citizens including Lois Crozier-Hogle, Ruth Spangenberg, and Wallace Stegner, who became the first president of the organization .[1]

CGF is funded primarily by individual private donations.[2] The organization aims to protect: creeks, coasts, wetlands, open space, farmlands, and natural resources of San Mateo and Santa Clara counties through advocacy, education and grassroots action.[1]
