Takht (Sikhism)

The word Takht literally means 'seat of power' or 'throne of authority' and refers to one of the five bodies of temporal physical authority of the Sikhs. Sometimes 'Takht' is spelled 'Takhat' or even 'Takat'.

These five authoritative bodies of power are:
*Akal Takht, at Amritsar, Punjab
*Keshgarh Sahib, at Anandpur Sahib, Punjab
*Patna Sahib, at Patna, Bihar
*Hazur Sahib, at Nanded, Maharashtra
*Damdama Sahib, at Talwandi Sabo, Bhatinda or Bathinda, Punjab
