Punchball

Punchball

Punchball is a sport similar to baseball but without a pitcher, catcher, or bat. It is a pastime of football announcer Al Michaels, who often played with former Chicago Bears quarterback Sid Luckman.

The "batter" uses a volleyball-type approach to put the ball (usually a spaldeen or pensie pinkie) in play, punching the ball with his closed fist. [http://www.streetplay.com/rulesheets/punchball/]

Stealing and bunting are not allowed.

Punchball is also known, in some parts of the world, as Volleyball-style baseball.

At the University of Florida, students commonly play a version of punchball which involves 2 players, a pitcher/goalie and the puncher. The pitcher typically stands down a hall and throws either a tennis or raquetball and the puncher must punch the ball back towards the catcher. If the ball passes the catcher, the puncher wins a point. If the puncher misses the ball or the goalie catches the ball, the goalie wins a point

Punchball (also called speedball) is a kind of training ball used in boxing training.
