A. T. M. Shamsuddin (1927) is a Bangladeshi author.

Many Names

Abu Taher Muhammad Shamsuddin was the name given by his family, A. T. M. Shamsuddin is mainly used. Sometimes he uses Taher Shamsuddin, pen name is Charubak.

Rude Childhood

He was born in Chittagong, southern part of Bengal, later Bangladesh. Mother died when he was only three years old. Father, Ahmedur Rahman, an employee of Kolkata port commission, got married again. Step mother, mother's cousin died. A. T. M. Shamsuddin, a child, was grown up in maternal uncle's house.

An Active Politician

A. T. M. Shamsuddin was active against British colonial power and was thrown into jail. When studying in class nine, was assistant secretary of Zila Muslim Chatraleague. and when Pakistan was born, saw the wrong parts. His graduation was never completed. Later, he was very strict communist and was a worker of underground party. Was a worker of Pakistan Movement

An Editor

At first, A. T. M. Shamsuddin joined Weekly Ittefaq. In 1961, he joined Songbad as an assistant editor. Was the editor of Udayan, Jubobarta, Soviet Somikkha, Soviet Review.

Career in Soviet Embassy

Joined in the embassy in Dhaka and was the general manager of press information department. He considered it as a political work and retired afte 21 years.

A Bachelor

From the very beginning, he was in the state of war and because of a big family depending on him, he could not marry.

Personal life

Likes fishing, Ucchango Songit, sports, philosophy, history. Travelled in many countries of Europe and Subcontinent. Has a very clear view on Soviet Union's fall, Soviet was not running as it had to, so, it is divided.

Likes Rabindranath, Romain Rolland, Tolostoy, Tarashankar, Manik, Sunil, Buddhadeb Bosu, Sayed Shamsul Haq, Samsur Rahman and Humayun Ahmed's writing.

Works

He has written many satyr and adventure stories. In 1966, his first novel 'Bonanir Buke' was published . After many years, Qazi Anwar Hussain inspired him and from 1987, started writing the stories of Batamul in Rohosho Potrika.

His first translation was 'Hoja Nasiruddin'.
