"Modernism/modernity" is a peer-reviewed academic journal founded in 1994 by Lawrence Rainey and Robert van Hallberg. Since 2001 it has been the official publication of the [http://msa.press.jhu.edu/index.html Modernist Studies Association] ; each September issue presents papers from the annual MSA conference. The journal is interdisciplinary, linking music, architecture, the visual arts, literature, and social and intellectual history in the field and period of modernism. Each issue has around seven essays on various topics. The journal occasionally has [http://www.press.jhu.edu/journals/modernism_modernity/special_issue.html special issues] , with a series of related essays on one topic.The journal recently launched an "Out of the Archives" series, in which out-of-print and neglected works of modernism are reintroduced to its readership to promote a deeper and wider knowledge of modernism. Each issue has a review essay, which reviews several books in combination and is around 5,000 words, and forty pages of book reviews. In 2003, "Modernism/modernity" won the Phoenix Award from the [http://www.celj.org/index.php Council of Editors of Learned Journals] .

The editors are Professors Cassandra Laity of Drew University, Lawrence Rainey of the University of York, and Jeffrey Schnapp of Stanford University. The journal encourages the professional development of outstanding doctoral students in their field by employing them as editors. The managing editors are currently Matthew Gaughan (York), Christy Wampole (Stanford), and Tenley Bank (Drew). The book review editor is Bryan Radley (York).

The journal is published quarterly in January, April, September, and November. Circulation is around 1,200 and the average length of an issue is 192 pages.
