Ahijah the Shilonite

Ahijah the Shilonite

Ahijah the Shilonite (Hebrew Name 1|אחיה השילוני|Ahiya Hashiloni) was a prophet of Shiloh (bibleverse|1|Kings|11:29|HE; bibleverse-nb|1|Kings|14:2|HE) in the days of Rehoboam.

The Bible records two of his remarkable prophecies:
*bibleverse|1|Kings|11:31-39|HE, announcing the rending of the ten tribes from Solomon; and
*bibleverse|1|Kings|14:6-16|HE, delivered to Jeroboam's wife, foretelling the death of Abijah the king's son, the destruction of Jeroboam's house, and the captivity of Israel "beyond the river."

Jeroboam gave testimony to the high esteem in which he was held as a prophet of God (bibleverse|1|Kings|14:2,3|HE).
