John Harrington (photographer, author)

John Harrington (born December 27, 1966) is an American photographer and author. He penned the book Best Business Practices for Photographers, and photo-illustrated three books by the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian: "Meet Naiche", "Meet Mindy", and "Meet Lydia".

He graduated from Encinal High School in Alameda, California in 1985, and continued his studies at The Catholic University of America in Washington DC, graduating in 1990 with a B.A. in Politics.Fact|date=August 2007

John's birth mother is of Norwegian descent. His father is Native-American. John is a member of the Siletz tribe. He is a member of American Society of Media Photographers, Advertising Photographers of America and the White House News Photographers Association.

He began his photography as the photo editor of the college newspaper "The Tower", and following graduation took a job as the Chief Photographer for The World & I Magazine.Fact|date=June 2007 After three years there traveling the world as a photojournalist, he left to continue his freelance career which would take him to Eastern Europe, Cuba, Alaska, Japan, and the White House for publications such as the "National Geographic Society", "Rolling Stone", and "Life". In May 2007, Harrington was the recipient of the United Nations' Leadership Award for his work in the field.Fact|date=June 2007
