Stephen McPhee (born 5 June 1981 in Glasgow, Scotland) is a Scottish professional footballer currently playing in England for Blackpool as a striker.

Club career

McPhee began his career at Coventry City in 2000, but did not make a senior appearance for the Sky Blues, who were then in the FA Premier League. In 2001 Coventry sent him on on loan to Scottish Premier League (SPL) club St. Mirren where he played seven games and won the April 2001 "SPL Young Player of the Month Award".cite news

He signed for Port Vale in July 2001. He scored on his debut against Notts County and finished the season on 14 goals in 51 games. In the 2003-04 season he scored 27 goals, the second highest goal tally for a Port Vale player in 66 years. In 2004 he moved to Portugal to play for Beira-Mar, who were then managed by Mick Wadsworth, who was sacked shortly after McPhee signed. McPhee was used in various positions and scored five goals in 31 appearances.

His consistent performances attracted interest from other clubs and McPhee joined Hull City on 19 May 2005, as a striker, for a fee reported to be in excess of £400,000, making McPhee the Tigers' record signing at the time. He suffered an injury in only his fourth league appearance for Hull, and missed the rest of the 2005-06 season and the start of the 2006-07 season. He eventually returned to action in December 2006 away at Plymouth Argyle, which was also new manager, Phil Brown's first match in charge of the club. He ended up missing most of the rest of the season again through injury.

On 7 January 2008, McPhee signed for Blackpool on a two-and-a-half-year contract. With a £300,000 price tag, he broke the club's incoming transfer record of £275,000, paid twelve years earlier for Chris Malkin.

On 25 February, 2008, McPhee was named in the Championship's "Team of the Week", alongside teammate Kaspars Gorkšs.cite web
