13 September 1956 ) is a retiredRomania n football midfielder. He was born inBistreţ ,Dolj County and debuted in Divizia A withFC Universitatea Craiova in 1973. He played 12 seasons for Universitatea, winning the league titles in 1980 and 1981. The team also won the Romanian Cup in 1977, 1978, 1981 and 1983.Balaci got 67 caps and 8 goals for the Romanian national team between 1974 and 1986 [http://www.rsssf.com/miscellaneous/roem-recintlp.html] . Sadly, he missed out on the chance to play for Romania at Euro 84 because of injury.
He was a real playmaker, at his best reminiscent of
Diego Maradona orGheorghe Hagi . Probably the best word to describe his position in the team was the Italian "trequartista".He retired from his playing career in 1988, and started working as a football coach. He has coached various teams in the Arab world as well as Universitatea Craiova in two periods.
