Wild Seven

Wild Seven

Wild Seven is a fictional terrorist group (freedom fighters in their own right) in the 2003 Japanese film "". They are led by Shuya Nanahara.

The name "Wild Seven" is derived from the nickname of Shuya Nanahara from the first movie, which itself is derived from a fictional brand of cigarettes that Shogo Kawada smoked in the first film, itself derived from the real life cigarette brand Mild Seven.

Their slogan is the Latin phrase "Jacta alea est" (lit. "The Die is Cast"), written on the top right of the Wild Seven flag. The phrase is alleged to have been spoken by Julius Caesar upon crossing the river Rubicon and starting a civil war.

The leader and founder of Wild Seven. Played by Tatsuya Fujiwara.

aki Sakurai

(桜井 サキ "Sakurai Saki"):Age: 16:Height: 168 cm:Played by: Natsuki Kato

The winner of the game of the Battle Royale held before the start of Battle Royale II, she is a sniper and a fighter. Before her participation in Battle Royale, she lived with her father and younger brother, Haruya Sakurai, who is a participant in Battle Royale II, and she later meets. During her time at Battle Royale, she used her natural talent at sniping to win, then killed her teacher before running away. She then met Shuya while wandering alone.

The novelization of the movie presents a slightly different story for Saki, as well as featuring her as a main character, fully illustrating her victory at Battle Royale. After killing her teacher, she ran away and stayed with another teacher who participated in anti-government activities. Through his connections, she also joined the Dawn of Sajia, an activist group, where she met Kazama Souji. However, the teacher was later revealed to be a traitor to the group, and was to be killed; Saki made an attempt to rescue him, and was thus cast out of the organization. As a result, she left the organization, along with Kazama, and joined the Dawn of Asia, the activist group led by Shinji Mimura's uncle, then finally joined Shuya's Wild Seven.

Mitsugu Sakai

(左海 貢 "Sakai Mitsugu"):Age: 18:Height: 173 cm:Played by: Yuuma Ishigaki

The second-in-command for the Wild Seven. As a student, his classmate was killed in a game of Battle Royale, which prompted him to begin his actions against the government. He first joined the Dawn of Asia, which was the chief group fighting against the Battle Royale Act, then later helped to found the Wild Seven. He is extremely loyal to Shuya, and would sacrifice himself to protect him.

In the novelization of the movie, it is shown that he was also the second-in-command and strategist for the Dawn of Asia. He is illustrated as being constantly busy.

Maki Souda

(早田 真紀 "Souda Maki"):Age: 17:Height: 160 cm:Played by: Yoko Maki

The technician for the Wild Seven. Her father, a college professor, was an anti-government activist, and she assisted him in his actions, but her parents were murdered for their protests. While participating in the anti-government activities, she heard of Shuya's situation, and searched him out, insisting on aiding him fight the government. Skilled at working with machines, she was the one who built the EMB machine used during the incidents of Battle Royale II, and is in charge of all communications as well. Her portrayal in the movie is consistent with her portrayal in the novelization.

oji Kazama

(風間 総司 "Kazama Soji"):Age: 20:Height: 186 cm:Played by: Mitsuru Murata

A sniper and one of the more dangerous members of the Wild Seven. A winner of a game of Battle Royale, he survived the game by hiding in the forest and sniping at his classmates. Due to the mental trauma of having to remain silent for the entire duration of the game, he has difficulty speaking, and has become fairly cold and emotionless.

The novelization of the movie presents some more information on him, as well as illustrating him as being slightly more talkative. It is revealed that, after his victory at Battle Royale, he never returned to his family, but instead lived in the back alleys of Japan, working with several different anti-government groups. Later, as a member of the Dawn of Sajia, he met Saki, and helped her perfect her skills at sniping. When she was cast out of the Dawn of Sajia, he also left with her, accompanying her during her time at both the Dawn of Asia, and, later, in the Wild Seven.

atoshi Imakire

(今給嶺 聡 "Imakire Satoshi"):Age 22:Height: 176 cm:Played by: Toshihiro Wada

The "older brother" of the Wild Seven. He was of the few people in the history of the Battle Royale Act who managed to escape mid-game. Traumatized by the experience of having to kill his classmates, he wandered the back alleys of Tokyo until he was picked up by Shinji Mimura's uncle, and joined the Dawn of Asia. As the oldest member of the Wild Seven, he is usually the calmest and most thoughtful. His favorites weapons are handmade grenade launchers.

The novelization shows him as being a fairly cheerful and friendly person, speaking in polite form to most people and often seen whistling a song. His participation in the Dawn of Asia was quite later, after Saki joined, and worked at the junction which connected various activist groups; however, he was not particularly fond of his job there.

Kengo Yonai

(米内 健吾 "Yonai Kengo"):Age: 17:Height: 164 cm:Played by: Miku Kuga

The winner of the Battle Royale held the year before Saki participated. He tends to act frighteningly and crudely towards most people, but is actually more caring than he seems. The movie photobook states that he was often bullied and picked on when he was younger, and was thus not as traumatized by the events of Battle Royale. His favored weapons are bayonets and a knife he started using to defend himself against bullies when he was a student.

The novelization further shows that he speak very roughly, using 'thug language' and is hot-tempered. He is on relatively bad terms with Sakai. However, he is extremely loyal to Shuya, and, though he rarely shows it, would do anything for him. He is also shown teaching hand-to-hand combat to the younger members of the group in his free time.

Other members

An unspecified number of runaway children and teenagers are also included in Wild Seven, most prominently a young boy named Jin as well as Mai, a prior Battle Royale winner briefly depicted in the first movie.

After the surviving Shikinatoride students are captured by Wild Seven, they effectively join the group following a raid launched by a Japanese special forces unit on the night of their capture.
