This list of aircraft carriers contains all aircraft carriers which are currently in service, or being constructed, and are listed alphabetically by country.

Brazil

* "NAe São Paulo": 32,800 tons ex-French "FS Foch" (launched 1960), purchased 15 November 2000

France

* "FS Charles de Gaulle": 42,000 tons nuclear powered aircraft carrier, commissioned 18 May 2001

India

* "INS Viraat": 28,700 tons ex-British "HMS Hermes" (launched 1953), purchased 19 April 1986 and commissioned May 1987, scheduled to be decommissioned in 2012.

Being rebuilt

* "INS Vikramaditya": 45,000 tons STOBAR modified ex-Russian "Admiral Gorshkov", planned to enter service in 2012.

Under construction

* "Vikrant class" carrier (Indigenous Aircraft Carrier): to be named "INS Vishaal", 37,500 tons STOBAR aircraft carrier. It is being built at Cochin Shipyard, southern India, and is expected to enter service in 2012.

Italy

* "Giuseppe Garibaldi" (551): 14,000 tons Italian STOVL, commissioned September 1985.
* "Conte di Cavour" (550): 27,000 tons Italian STOVL, commission date 2008.

Russia

* "Admiral Flota Sovetskovo Soyuza Kuznetsov": 67,500 tons "Admiral Kuznetsov" class STOBAR aircraft carrier. Launched in 1985 as "Tbilisi", renamed and operational from 1995.

Spain

* "Principe de Asturias": 17,200 tons STOVL carrier, commissioned 30 May 1988.

Under construction

* "Juan Carlos I": 27,000 tons Buque de Proyección Estratégica class amphibious ship/VSTOL carrier, to be commissioned in 2009.

Thailand

* "HTMS Chakri Naruebet": 11,400 tons carrier based on Spanish "Principe De Asturias" design. Commissioned 10 August 1997, though remains predominantly inactive due to lack of funds.

United Kingdom

* HMS Illustrious (R06): 20,700 tons (21,000 tonnes) "Invincible" STOVL class aircraft carrier, commissioned 20 June 1982, scheduled to be decommissioned in 2012.
* HMS Ark Royal (R07): 20,700 tons (21,000 tonnes) "Invincible" STOVL class aircraft carrier, commissioned 1 November 1985, scheduled to be decommissioned in 2015.
* HMS Invincible (R05): 20,700 tons (21,000 tonnes) "Invincible" STOVL class aircraft carrier, commissioned 11 July 1980, decommissioned in 2005, currently in reserve until 2010.

Ordered

* HMS Queen Elizabeth (CVF): 64,000 tons (65,000 tonnes) "Queen Elizabeth" class, ordered in 2008 and expected to be in service in 2014.
* HMS Prince of Wales (CVF): 64,000 tons (65,000 tonnes) "Queen Elizabeth" class, ordered in 2008 and expected to be in service in 2016.

United States

*USS "Kitty Hawk" (CV-63): 82,200 ton, "Kitty Hawk"-class conventional-powered supercarrier, in active service, commissioned 21 April 1961. Due for decommissioning in 2009.
*USS "Enterprise" (CVN-65): 93,500 ton nuclear-powered supercarrier, commissioned 25 November 1961. First nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. Due for decommissioning in 2015.
*USS "Nimitz" (CVN-68): 101,000 ton "Nimitz"-class nuclear-powered supercarrier in active service, commissioned 3 May 1975.
*USS "Dwight D. Eisenhower" (CVN-69): 101,000 ton "Nimitz"-class nuclear-powered supercarrier in active service, commissioned 18 October 1977.
*USS "Carl Vinson" (CVN-70): 101,000 ton "Nimitz"-class nuclear-powered supercarrier in active service, commissioned 13 March 1982.
*USS "Theodore Roosevelt" (CVN-71): 101,000 ton "Nimitz"-class nuclear-powered supercarrier in active service, commissioned 25 October 1986.
*USS "Abraham Lincoln" (CVN-72): 102,000-ton "Nimitz"-class nuclear-powered supercarrier in active service, commissioned 11 November 1989
*USS "George Washington" (CVN-73): 102,000 ton "Nimitz"-class nuclear-powered supercarrier in active service, commissioned 4 July 1992.
*USS "John C. Stennis" (CVN-74): 102,000 ton "Nimitz"-class nuclear-powered supercarrier in active service, commissioned 9 December 1995.
*USS "Harry S. Truman" (CVN-75): 102,000 ton "Nimitz"-class nuclear-powered supercarrier in active service, commissioned 25 July 1998.
*USS "Ronald Reagan" (CVN-76): 104,000 ton "Nimitz"-class nuclear-powered supercarrier, in active service, commissioned 12 July 2003.

Under construction

*USS "George H. W. Bush" (CVN-77): 104,000 ton "Nimitz"-class nuclear powered supercarrier in construction, commissioning scheduled for 2009.
*USS "Gerald R. Ford" (CVN-78): 100,000 ton "Ford"-class nuclear powered supercarrier in design and development stage, commissioning scheduled for 2015.
