Islands included in the group are (west to east) Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Sulawesi [http://www.britannica.com/eb/article-9070346/Sunda-Islands Sulawesi belongs in fact to the Greater Sunda Islands] and adjacent smaller islands. The group is politically split between Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

They can be contrasted with the Lesser Sunda Islands to the east, and together with them make up the Sunda Islands.
