Jeanne Hopkins Lucas was a Democratic member of the North Carolina General Assembly representing the state's twentieth Senate district, including constituents in Durham County.

Lucas was a native of Durham, North Carolina and an alumna of Hillside High School, attending the historically black school from 1951-1953 and teaching French and Spanish there from 1957-1975.

Lucas became the first black woman to serve in the state Senate in 1993.
