Za dom spremni

The salute "Za dom - spremni!", literally translated: For home - ready!, is a nationalist Croatian salute.
It dates back to at least the 19th century Ban Josip Jelačić. Its modern-day meaning, however, was defined with its usage during the Second World War by the Ustaše movement, as their equivalent of the Nazi "Sieg Heil" salute.Fact|date=June 2008

A reasonable translation would be: "for our homeland we are ready at any time for action". The Ustaše salute also included the phrase "Za koga? Za Poglavnika!" meaning "For whom? For the Poglavnik" (Ante Pavelić).Fact|date=May 2008

The opera Nikola Šubić-Zrinski (1876) contained a patriotic song U boj, u boj that included that salute.

The popular Croatian band "Thompson" has used the slogan in one of their songs; some fans respond with the Nazi salute, though their lead singer Marko Perković has denied ever "raising his hand" in the salute himself [ [http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/02/world/europe/02croatia.html Fascist Overtones From Blithely Oblivious Rock Fans] New York Times July 2, 2007] .
