Rosendal Palace

Rosendal Palace (Swedish: "Rosendal Slott") was built between 1823 and 1827 for Charles XIV John of Sweden. It was designed in the Empire Style by the architect Fredrik Blom after Fredrik August Lidströmer.

Lidströmer, Stockholm's city architect from 1818 to 1824, was King Karl XIV Johan's primary architect at the construction of the original Rosendal Palace. After it burned down in 1819, Lidströmer also created the initial drawings for the replacement palace. These were then adapted and redrawn by Blom, Linströmer's father Jonas Lidströmer's assistant. The Queen's Pavilion "(Drottningpaviljongen)" and Guard's Cottage "(Vaktstugan)" remained entirely the work of Lidströmer junior.

King Frederik also made Lidströmer responsible for transport and placement of the giant Porphyry Vase in the Palace grounds. (Porphyry is a unique Scandinavian volcanic stone, extremely dense and heavy.) The Vase is the world's largest porphyric artifactFact|date=August 2008 and considered a masterpieceFact|date=August 2008. (See Älvdalen "(Älvdalsporfyr)".)

The Palace is situated on southern Djurgården in Stockholm.
