Yom Kippur War , Shafik was a senior fighter pilot underHosni Mubarak command. He participated in theMansura Air Battle and during the action Shafik shot down two Israeli aircraft. Rome . He continued in this role until 1986. The years from 1988 to 1991 saw Shafik serve in several senior command positions before he was appointed as the Commander of the Air Operations Department.In September 1991, Shafik was appointed as the Air Force's
Chief of Staff , holding this position until April 1996 when he was became Commander of the Egyptian Air Force. In2002 he was replaced by Air MarshalMagdy Galal Sharawi and Shafik retired from the Air Force.After departing the Air Force, Shafik was appointed to the new post of Minister of Civil Aviation by President
Hosni Mubarak . During his time as the Minister of Civil Aviation, Shafik has initiated several controversal changes and has been accused of having a harsh management style.Shafik is married and has three daughters.
