USS "Constellation" (CC-2) would have been the third ship of that name in the
United States Navy , but was canceled prior to completion.A Sclass|Lexington|battlecruiser, her keel was laid at
Newport News, Virginia , in August 1920, but the class was cancelled in 1923 by theWashington Naval Treaty of 1922. USS|Saratoga|CV-3|2 was selected for conversion toaircraft carrier over "Constellation" since she was further along in construction. "Constellation's" uncompleted hull was subsequently scrapped.References
