Sheikh 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Lateef Aal ash-Shaikh (also known as Abdul Aziz al-Asheik) is an Islamic scholar and currently the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia. Biography

Shaikh Aal ash-Shaikh (ArB|عبد العزيز بن عبد الله آل الشيخ transl|ar|Wiki MOS|"‘Abd al-‘Azīz ibn ‘Abd Allāh Āl ash-Shaykh") was born in Riyadh in 1941. He began studying the Qur'an at the Ahmad Ibn Sanaan Mosque and memorized the entire text by the time he was twelve years old. In 1954 he transferred to the Imaam ad-Da'wah Institute where he graduated from the Faculty of Sharia in 1962.

He then began his active religious life, and worked as a teacher at the Imaam ad-Da'wah al-'Ilmee Institute until 1971. He then transferred to teaching at the Faculty of Sharia (at the Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University) in Riyadh and continued there until 1991.

He was made a member of the Council of Senior Scholars in 1986, where after he was also made a member of the Permanent Committee for Islaamic Research and Fataawa, and was appointed deputy to the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia (Shaikh ibn Baaz) in 1995.

He was the imam for Jumu'ah prayers at the mosque of Sheikh Abd Allah ibn 'Abd al-Lateef since 1969, later transferring to being imam at the Central Mosque of al-Imam Turki ibn 'Abd Allah in 1991. He also became the imam and Khatib at Masjid Namirah on the Day of Arafat in 1981.

Whilst at the Faculty of Sharia he supervised university theses, and took part in thesis discussions and debates.

Since 1993 he has taken part in responding to questions on the radio program "Noorun 'alad-Darb".

He also used to hold lessons in the Central Mosque of al-Imam Turki ibn 'Abd Allah. He takes part in seminars and lectures alongside his work in the field of dawah in Riyadh and Ta'if.

Since his birth he suffered from weak eyesight, until he lost his sight altogether in 1960.
