Khotkovo

Khotkovo ( _ru. Хотьково) is a town in Moscow Oblast, Russia, located some 60 km north-east of Moscow and 11 km south-west of Sergiyev Posad, on the Moscow – Yaroslavl railroad. Population: 20,600 (2005 est.); 20,957 (2002 Census); 23,343 (1989 Census); 20,000 (1974).

Khotkovo was first attested in 1308. It was granted a town status in 1949. The settlement is best known as the site of a monastery, founded by the parents of the great Saint Sergius of Radonezh ( [http://sobory.ru/photo/index.html?photo=17694 picture)] . The 19th-century artists' community of Abramtsevo is situated within three miles from Khotkovo.

The town's main industrial enterprises are "Electroizolit", an electroinsulative materials manufacturer; "Gorbunoskaya" weaving mill, and a carving workshop.

Education facilities include a number of secondary schools, Abramtsevo Art and Industry College, and a music school.
