Craig Phillip Robinson (born October 25, 1971) is an American actor and stand-up comedian. He is best known for his roles on The Office as Darryl Philbin and in the films Pineapple Express, Zack and Miri Make a Porno and Hot Tub Time Machine.

Personal life

Robinson was born in Chicago. He has appeared in feature films and television programs. Prior to a career in show business, Robinson was a music teacher at Horace Mann Elementary School in Chicago, Illinois. He attended high school at Whitney M. Young Magnet High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Illinois State University and his masters of education from Saint Xavier University.

Arrest

Robinson was arrested on June 29, 2008 in Culver City on charges of possessing methamphetamine and ecstasy during a routine traffic stop.[1][2][3] At the time, Robinson was already on probation stemming from a drunk driving incident in 2006.[1] He pled guilty to one count of possession of a controlled substance, and agreed to take drug education classes.[3]

Career

Acting and comedy

He began doing stand-up and taking classes in improv and acting at The Second City in Chicago.

Beginning in 2005, Robinson portrayed Darryl Philbin on the American version of The Office, and was promoted to a starring role in the fourth season. In November 2010, E! News reported that Robinson's character may be tapped to replace Steve Carell's Michael Scott as branch manager.[4] He has appeared on other television shows, including Arrested Development, Lucky, Friends, Halfway Home and Reno 911! and in the music video for the Red Hot Chili Peppers song "Hump de Bump". Robinson hosted the seventh season of Last Comic Standing. He also was the voice of the character "Cookie the Ogre" in "Shrek Forever After". Plays Reg Mackworthy on the HBO hit series Eastbound & Down.

Robinson's film work includes roles in Knocked Up, Pineapple Express, Fanboys, Daddy's Little Girls, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Hot Tub Time Machine and Miss March.

Music

For a number of years Robinson and comedian Jerry Minor had a comedy act where they performed as musical duo "L. Witherspoon & Chucky", with Minor as smooth singing "L. Witherspoon" and Robinson as "Chucky", the keyboard player and back-up singer. They performed the act on HBO's Sketch Pad, several stand-up shows on Comedy Central as well as on Real Time with Bill Maher and Jimmy Kimmel Live.[5]

Robinson occasionally performs with his band, The Nasty Delicious. They were featured as his band in an episode of The Office and on the season finale of the seventh season of Last Comic Standing. He has also performed in character in multiple episodes of The Office, and was featured on the Hot Tub Time Machine soundtrack, singing "Jessie's Girl" and "Let's Get It Started."

He was also in the film "Miss march" playing the role of the hit rapper "Horsedick.mpeg" and produced two songs which were in the film
