Born 1919

Nina Yakovlevna Dumbadze (Russian: Нина Яковлевна Думбадзе; January 23, 1919 — April 14, 1983) was a discus thrower who represented the USSR. Her greatest achievement being a bronze medal at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, she also won the European Championships in 1946 and 1950.

Dumbadze trained at Dynamo in Tbilisi. She threw 53.25 metres in 1948 to break Gisela Mauermayer's twelve year old world record. She improved this to 53.37 m in 1951. In August 1952 the world record was improved to 53.61 m by Nina Romashkova. Dumbadze recaptured it a month later with 57.04 m, and the record stood until 1960, when Tamara Press beat it by eleven centimetres.
