Ernestine Gilbreth Carey

Ernestine Gilbreth Carey (April 4 1908 - November 4, 2006) was an author.

Biography

She was the daughter of Lillian Moller Gilbreth and Frank Bunker Gilbreth, early 20th-century pioneers of time and motion study and what would now be called organizational behavior. She grew up in the Gilbreth family home in Montclair, New Jersey.

The upbringing of the twelve Gilbreth children was chronicled in the comic memoir "Cheaper by the Dozen" (1948, adapted in a 1950 film and had the title re-used for the film 2003 film). The book, as well as a sequel titled "Belles on Their Toes" (1952), was written by Ernestine with her brother Frank.

Ernestine Carey was a graduate of Smith College, worked as a department store buyer, and was the author of several other books as well. She was married to Charles E. Carey, Sr., with whom she had two children. She resided in Reedley, California.

She died on November 4 2006 of natural causes in Fresno, California, aged 98.
