The School Room

The School Room is a famous rock climbing training facility in the Heeley Bank School community centre, Sheffield, England. The facility was originally built in 1993 by Gavin Ellis, Ben Tye and Andy Coish as conditions at Peak Limestone venues (at which they trained) were not always ideal. The facility was made famous by its reputation for its extremely difficult problems. Also, many notable international rock climbers were trained at The School Room. These include Ben Moon, Malcolm Smith, Jerry Moffat and Richard Simpson.Fact|date=March 2007

The School Room received its name from the fact that it forms a portion of an old school building, of which another portion is used for an art studio.Fact|date=March 2007 It was built in 1994 by Gavin Ellis, Ben Tye and Andy Coish. The facility consists of four plywood climbing walls, which are covered with wooden and plastic holds, at angles of 15, 30, 40, and 50 degrees. Both Ben Moon and Richard Simpson train there.

Recently The School Room was under-threat of closure and Sheffield City Council had asked all users of the Center to vacate the premises by the end of Fact|date=July 2007, and it was proposed that the money raised from selling the Center would be invested in local projects. A successful petition was established to save the facility and the Council opted to shelve the plans allowing climbers to [http://www.sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk/features/Carry-on-climbing.3144194.jp "Carry on climbing"] , "The Sheffield Telegraph" August 24 2007 as well as maintaining the centre for other users.
