- Loughguile
Loughguile, or Loughgiel, is a small
village inCounty Antrim ,Northern Ireland , 13km to the east ofBallymoney .It is at the start of the Glens of Antrim. It consists of fifty-eight Townlands. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 321 people, however, this is the population of the village the larger parish area has a much larger number of people of between two thousand five hundred people and three hundred people. It is situated inBallymoney Borough Council area.It is the only settlement serving a large rural hinterland on the eastern side of the
Ballymoney Borough Council area, but until recently had only a limited range of services. Prior to construction of the public housing estate at Scally Park in the 1960s, Loughguile was a small cluster of development centred around the church. It was not until 2001 that any significant private housing development took place.The Millennium Centre on Lough Road, a community regeneration project part-funded by the International Fund for Ireland and opened in 2001, provides high quality and up-to-date childcare, training, industrial and sports facilities.

Loughguile's hurling team is the only team in Ulster to have won the All Ireland club championship, doing so in 1983. However since then the team has struggled at senior level and have yet to recapture the glory days.As they have reach the Antrim Senior Hurling Final every year in the past six years. However, the Loughiel Shamrocks have great success at under age level and have many great young hurlers on the county panel.
The Troubles In Loughguile
There were no major incidents or fatalites as a result of the troubles in Loughguile though there was always strong support for Irish republicanism in the area. The village itself has a majority Catholic population. The village remains peaceful and there is a strong community spirit in all its people.
History
People
Cahal Cardinal Daly is a native of Loughguile and was born in October 1917. He retired as Archbishop of Armagh in October 1996.References
