Allan Johnston (born 14 December 1973 in Glasgow) is a Scottish professional footballer currently playing for Scottish Premier League club Kilmarnock.

His former clubs include Hearts, Rennes, Sunderland, Birmingham City (loan), Bolton Wanderers (loan), boyhood favourites Rangers, Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday.

He rose to prominence by scoring a hat-trick against Rangers at Ibrox while playing for Hearts in 1996. The only visiting player to have scored a hat-trick at Ibrox since then is Ivan Sproule (then of Hibernian) in 2005.

One of the most successful periods of his career came at Sunderland between 1997 and 1999. His first season ended in disappointment at Sunderland lost on penalties to Charlton Athletic after drawing 4–4 in the Division One playoff final at Wembley, but they made up for it a year later by winning the division title with a (then) professional league record of 105 points to attain Premiership status.

He also did very well during a loan spell at Bolton from Sunderland in early 2000, helping the club to the FA Cup and League Cup Semi Finals. His goal against Ipswich Town in the Play Offs wasn't enough to help the Trotters to a Wembley Final.

He did not fare very well in his first season with Kilmarnock (2004–05), although this could mainly be put down to a lack of pre-season training. However, his form greatly improved in the 2005–06 season after manager Jim Jefferies moved him from the wing into the centre of midfield. He formed a strong partnership with James Fowler in that position, and had a large influence in the club's improvement in the league table.

Johnston made 18 appearances for Scotland between 1999 and 2002, and has also been capped at under–21 level. He is nicknamed "Magic" Johnston, after the legendary basketball player Earvin "Magic" Johnson.
