"Put Your Records On" is a soulacoustic song written by English singer-songwriter Corinne Bailey Rae, John Beck, and Steve Chrisanthou for Rae's debut album, "Corinne Bailey Rae" (2006). Released as the album's second single in February and early March 2006 throughout Europe and as the lead single in North America, the track received two nominations at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, losing both to Dixie Chicks's "Not Ready to Make Nice."

ong information

Produced by Steve Chrisanthou, the song crashed into the UK Singles Chart at number two and was only kept off the top spot by Madonna's "Sorry." The carefree, chilled-out style of both the song and the video—set in South Africa—caught people's imagination and created hype around Rae that a British urban music artist has not enjoyed since Craig David and Ms. Dynamite's emergence in 2000 and 2002 respectively.Fact|date=February 2007 The song's opening line, "Three little birds sat on my window/And they tell me I don't need to worry," is a reference to Bob Marley & The Wailers's 1977 hit song "Three Little Birds."

"Put Your Records On" enjoyed a wealth of critical and commercial acclaimFact|date=February 2007 which helped rocket the album to number one in its first week of release. The track topped the UK Official Download Chart and the UK R&B Singles Chart; it was also a smash hit on radio reaching at least number two on the UK Airplay Chart. However, the single did not fare as well in the United States, peaking at number sixty-four on the "Billboard" Hot 100. As of March 1 2006, Rae became only the second female solo act to top the UK Official Download Chart in history.

The acoustic version of this song was a featured Free Single of the Week at the Canadian and the U.S. iTunes Store. On 7 March 2007, contestant Antonella Barba sang this song for her Top 16 performance.

The song earned a 2007 Grammy Award nomination for Song of the Year. [ [http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,235200,00.html "FOX Facts: Complete List of Grammy Award Nominations"] . Associated Press. December 7 2006. Retrieved December 9 2006.]

This song was covered three times in reality television programmes in 2007. On the sixth season of "American Idol", semi-finalist Antonella Barba performed this song during the Top 16 week. Also, on the fourth season of the UK's "The X Factor", finalist Alisha Bennett performed this song during the Top 8. Carly Rae Jepsen sang it on the fifth season of "Canadian Idol" during the Top 22 week.

The song appears on the 2007 video game "".
