The Aarhus School of Business is a business school in Aarhus, Denmark. It offers both undergraduate and graduate level studies in areas such as Business, Management, Economics, Language, and Law. On 1 January 2007, it became part of University of Aarhus.

History

On 15 September 2004, Aarhus School of Business (ASB) celebrated its 65th anniversary, making it one of Europe's oldest business schools.

However, ASB's predecessor, The Jutland Business School (Den Jyske Handelshøjskole, DJH), has a somewhat more extensive history. Already in the late 1800s, DJH provided business programmes to young people from Jutland who wished to follow studies within business, economics and trade. Only when ASB was founded in 1939 did it become the academic institution that it is known as today.

Since the founding of ASB more than 65 years ago, it has grown and kept growing. In 1968, ASB moved from the original location downtown Aarhus to the yellow and red brick buildings which since then have provided the setting for the outstanding research and teaching that ASB stands for.

Today ASB is an EQUIS accredited business school and it has more than 7,000 students (a significant number of which are international students) and about 450 employees.

Departments:Department of Business Studies, Department of Language and Business Communication, Department of Economics, Department of Law, Department of Management, Department of Marketing and Statistics.

Programmes

ASB offers a wide variety of programmes on all types of academic levels. These include:

Some of these courses are taught only in English, others only in Danish and again others in a mix of English and whatever additional language a student may be studying.

As a general rule, classes pertaining to communication, business, law and administration generally exist in English, while language studies generally focus on the differences between Danish and the language of the study programme.

ASB admits a high number of international students from all over the world on exchange programmes. Students coming to ASB as exchange students will naturally only be offered classes in English.

Klubben

ASB is also known for its student bar/club known as Klubben (which means 'The Club' in Danish).

During regular school hours and weekdays, Klubben is the main socializing area of ASB with spaces to study, relax with your friend, play fussball/pool/board games, but on Thursdays, Klubben changes into a club where students meet and have fun until 2AM. Klubben is usually packed with both Danish and international students, and the atmosphere is often amazing. Klubben sells cheap beers and drinks, which, of course, is a big benefit to any student. Additionally, Klubben opens whenever any larger sports event such as the Champions League, Danish national team fixtures or Super Bowl is on. Due to a limited number of allowed visitors, Klubben usually only admit people studying at ASB.

Klubben has the largest turnover in sales of alcohol of any club in Denmark on any given Thursday night. Check Out the website [http://www.klubben.dk Klubben.dk] for pictures from the Thursday in "klubben". Klubben is one of the business units of Studenterlauget, the one student union in Denmark with most people employed.

Buddy Programme

As a part of a programme to integrate foreign students in Danish and help them adapt to the Danish studying system, ASB offers all foreign students the possibility to have a Danish Buddy that helps them with settling in Denmark and finding their way through the Danish system. The programme was initiated in 2007 and is scheduled to also be a part of the academic year 2008/2009.
