"Parabola" is the name of the second single from Tool's album "Lateralus". It was released in 2002 as a promo CD only. On December 20, 2005, the song as well as the music video were released on a DVD single along with the DVD single for "Schism". The DVD also contains an optional "dual" audio commentary on the video by Jello Biafra of Dead Kennedys fame. The dual commentary consists of two separate recordings of Biafra's voice, one playing in each stereo channel. This song will be featured on the video game Guitar Hero World Tour.

Music video

In support of this promo single, a music video was released — clocking in at over ten minutes because of the inclusion of the 3-minute "Parabol" lead-in (a separate track on the album). [http://toolshed.down.net/video/parabola/] It was directed by Adam Jones and, like other Tool videos, includes several abstract scenes (which can be seen on the single art). [http://www.mvdbase.com/video.php?id=28113] These include humanoids meeting and cutting pomaceous fruit, then vomiting a black liquid in a circle. Another scene, starring English musician Tricky, includes him dissecting a small biped and then wandering in the forest. It hardly met the criteria for being broadcast on mainstream music video stations, although some channels worked around this by cutting the "Parabol" intro.
