Exciter Tour

Exciter Tour

The Exciter Tour was Depeche Mode's 2001 world tour, featuring concerts spanning over 20 countries and featuring some of their greatest hits, usually the more recent tracks up to 2001. It promotes their 2001 album, "Exciter".

Exciter Tour officially began June 15, 2001 in Montreal, Quebec. It ended in Mannheim, Germany on November 5 of the same year.

Also, in Los Angeles on June 4, the band played a special rehearsal show for invited guests only, mostly winners of worldwide contests and members of the media. There were also rehearsal shows in Quebec City, Quebec and Ottawa, Ontario.

The band planned a tour extension, where they would have more shows in Europe for the Summer of 2002. However, that tour remained a plan.

Director Anton Corbijn, who designed the set, filmed the two Paris shows in October. The footage was compiled to a DVD movie, "One Night in Paris", and was released in late 2002.

The set was very general compared to the other Depeche Mode tours, but one of the main things the set has was a large movie theater-sized white screen behind the band, which would usually display various light patterns, but would sometimes feature films or pictures. Memorable ones included a raindrop animation during "Waiting for the Night", a still video of a sun setting in a canyon during Martin's acoustic songs, a goldfish and a shark swimming around a blue screen during "In Your Room", and an entirely never-before-seen humorous video of the band at a cafe during "It's No Good". You can view them on the "One Night in Paris" DVD set. There were also lights and various objects at the top of the set, which would illuminate during certain songs.

The set was designed by Anton Corbijn.

etlist

There were eight songs from the album it promotes, "Exciter". The setlist mostly spanned songs from their more recent albums, which caused some criticism from fans who wanted the more older tracks to appear. The oldest song in the main setlist was "Black Celebration" from the album of the same name, released in 1986.

Normally, the setlist for Depeche Mode shows are consistent. However, sometimes songs are switched with other songs, usually the Martin Gore vocal songs. Exceptions are noted above in "Setlist Notes". All songs are sung by David Gahan unless otherwise noted.
