Band History

Early years (1999-2000)

Black was formed in 1999 by three closest friends who shared a common interest in music -Tony Vincent Gomes, Khademul Mushfeque Jahan and Jon Kabir. The trio has held strong since their school years. They stated appearing on Underground concerts since they formed featuring Jon as lead vocal,Jahan as guitarist and Tony as Drummer.Black got its first break in 2000 with Chharpotro (an Underground mixed album by Legendary Bengali musician Durey); their first released single was Chena Dukkho. The song received a good response that eventually helped Black to sign a contract with G Series. Amar Prithibi (2002)

Black's first studio album "Amar Prithibi", released in 2002. "Amar Prithibi" was a huge success; immediately solidifying Black's position as one of the best-selling bands in the country. It was also the first true alternative rock record ever released in Bangladesh, which until the late 90s was heavily dominated by soft rock/pop groups like Feelings, Miles and the hard rock/Metal bands like Warfaze,Aurthohin. Songs such as "Obhiman", "Amar Prithibi", "Amra" and "Prarthonad" all went on to become huge hits from that album.

In the meantime, Black continued to produce songs for mixed albums like "Anushilon", "Projonmo", "Din Bodol" (which featured their collaboration with popular bands Artcell and Cryptic Fate on the song "Ashirbaad") and "Lokayot". They were also featured in the mixed album series of Sumon (Aurthohin), with tracks in "Agantuk", "Agantuk-2" and "Agantuk-3". Utshober Por (2003)

In 2003 [cite web |url=http://bangladesh-tanim.blogspot.com/2008/07/black-launches-3rd-studio-album.html |title=Black launches 3rd studio album|publisher=My Bangladesh|accessdate=] Black released their second album, "Utshober Por". The album, due to its different sound, garnered a lot of controversy among the general public. A much more mature effort, in terms of experimentation, than "Amar Prithibi", "Utshober Por" featured a more raw and back-to-basics alternative sound that older Black fans were used to. Although commercially the record was considered a letdown, it attained a lot of positive feedback from the press and critics alike.

Following 2003 Black’s popularity went through the roof, when the group was cast in a tele-film play, "Offbeat" which was televised in Valentine’s Day on Channel I.

When the band was planning to start their 3rd studio album fate intervened with them. On the night of April 20, 2005, on their way back to Dhaka from a concert in Chittagong, Black suffered the most terrible accident of their lives. The accident caused the death of reputed sound engineer and band musician Imran Ahmed Mobin, as well as severe injuries to Black's bassist Meraj and drummer Tony. After a long and nearly everlasting absence they had started jamming again according to a local newspaper almost a year after the fatal accident. While bass player Miraj is yet to recover the legendary Bassbaba (Sumon) of Aurthohin filled in for him for about a year. Currently, While Miraj is still recovering, the position of bass player is helmed by Khan Sharrier Shagor, Miraj's mentor and former member of the 90s underground band, X-Uranium.After a long time, Black released a song titled "35" in the mixed album "Underground". This album was released on 21 October 2006. "35" was the first song they released after the horrendous car accident

Black's keyboard player Tahsan,Become too much busy with his personal career. Early in 2006 it was made official that after a mutual understanding, Tahsan had left the band.

They have done with the construction of their own studio by early 2007. Black has announced that they are heading into studio to start recording their 3rd album from November 2007 onwards. The band has announced the title for the upcoming record to be "Abar".

Abar (2008)

Black in cooperation with Warid Telecom released its third album titled "Abar" on July 10, 2008. [cite web |url=http://bangladesh-tanim.blogspot.com/2008/07/black-launches-3rd-studio-album.html |title=Black launches 3rd studio album|publisher=My Bangladesh|accessdate=] In the very 1st week of its release the band sold even more copies of disc than expected.
