Colleges of the University of Cambridge

This is a list of the colleges within the University of Cambridge. These colleges are the primary source of accommodation for undergraduates and graduates at the University and at the undergraduate level have responsibility for admitting students and organising their tuition. [Cite web | url = http://www.cam.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/colleges/role.html | title = Role of the Colleges | accessdate = 2008-03-27 | publisher = University of Cambridge] They also provide funding and/or accommodation for some of the senior research posts in the University.

The University of Cambridge has 31 colleges,Cite web | url = http://www.cam.ac.uk/colleges/ | title = The Colleges of the University | publisher = University of Cambridge | accessdate = 2008-03-26] of which Peterhouse is the oldest, founded in 1284. [Cite web | url = http://www.robinson.cam.ac.uk/about/ | title = About Robinson College | accessdate = 2008-03-26 | publisher = Robinson College, Cambridge] Of all the Cambridge colleges, three admit only women, those of Murray Edwards, Newnham and Lucy Cavendish, while the remaining 28 are mixed. [Cite web | url = http://www.guardian.co.uk/obituaries/story/0,3604,976477,00.html | title = Obituary - Professor Sir Bernard Williams| publisher = The Guardian | accessdate = 2008-03-26 | date = 2003-06-13] Two colleges admit only postgraduates, both Clare Hall and Darwin,Cite web | url = http://www.cam.ac.uk/colleges/addresses.html | title = University of Cambridge - The Colleges - Contact information | publisher = University of Cambridge | accessdate = 2008-03-26] and four more admit mainly mature students or graduate students: Hughes Hall, Lucy Cavendish, St Edmund's and Wolfson.
