David MacDonald (born 1961) is a Canadian songwriter, producer and performer born in Ottawa, Canada. He is also a well known activist of the Christian right in Ottawa.

Career

At age 19, he produced rap records in Harlem for Tayster/Rojac Records including "LoveBug" Starski's debut EP "Positive Life" in 1981.[1] He was nicknamed "Mighty Whitey" and also produced "Prep Rap" for CBS/Nemperor Records. In 1981, David was cast in the Broadway show "Rock & Roll: the First 5000 Years" [1] and went on to act in movies for Paramount and Columbia pictures, ABC-TV After School Special and commercials for Levis and Nintendo. [2]

After being cast as "Rum Tum Tugger" (the Rock & Roll Cat) in the first US national tour of the Broadway show Cats, he became sick from an eating disorder and lost his voice for three years. He later became a Christian song writer, musician and radio talk show host in Canada. He released a CD which got airplay on Canadian Christian radio stations. Since then he has toured Canada, the US, Germany, Poland, Guam, Siapan, and Guatemala, appeared on CBC radio (Ottawa), National Christian TV shows, and radio programs. He wrote the theme songs for Canada's "National March for Life" four years in a row, and led 15,000 people in the "National March for Marriage" demonstration on Canada's Parliament Hill (April 9, 2005) where he shared the stage with politician Stephen Harper. David has a weekly Catholic radio show called "Bridging the Gap," and a website "Catholic Bridge".

Political activism

MacDonald has been very active in the Ottawa social conservative movement. He ran for the Family Coalition Party in the Ontario general election, 2007 in the riding of Ottawa South. He has been active in opposing same-sex marriage and supporting pro-life causes.
