Antigonia (Chaonia)

Antigonia (Chaonia)

Antigonea ( _el. Αντιγόνεια), also transliterated as Antigonia and Antigoneia, was the chief inland city of ancient Chaonia. Pyrrhus of Epirus, the founder, named it after one of his wives, Antigone, daughter of Berenice. Its ruins are located just north of the Albanian village of Saraqinisht in the Gjirokastër district.
