Larry Hedrick

Larry Hedrick

Larry Hedrick (born December 12, 1940) is a North Carolina-born businessman and former NASCAR team owner.

In 1976, he formed Statesville Auto Auction, which became one of the largest and most profitable auto sales businesses until it was sold to Manheim Auctions in 1993. Hedrick also owned and operated Larry Hedrick Motorsports, a NASCAR that started in 1990 with driver Greg Sacks with sponsorship from Kellogg's. In 1993 Meineke Mufflers joined the team. In 1994 Joe Nemicheck drove and competed for Rookie Of The Year. In 1995 Ricky Craven took over the ride and won Rookie-Of-The-Year, beating Robert Pressley whose brother Charlie was Craven's crewchief. In 1996 Craven had several top-10 finish before departing to join Hendrick (Rick Hendrick) Motorsports's three car stable. Steve Grissom became the team's driver in 1997 and sat on the outside pole at the season opening Daytona 500. In 1998 the team went through several drivers. In 1999 Kodiak left NASCAR and the team was searching for sponsorship. In 2000 the team thought it had sponsorship from Big Daddy's Bar-B-Que but the deal fell through, so the team closed its doors. In November 2000, Hedrick along with Dale Earnhardt and Speedway Motorsports owner, Bruton Smith, bought the Piedmont Boll Weevils, and changed the team's name to the Kannapolis Intimidators to go along with Earnhardt's on-track nickname, "The Intimidator".
