Carlo Pedini

Carlo Pedini (born 19 June 1956 in Perugia) is an Italian classical musician.

Biography

Carlo Pedini studied music by himself for a number of years before taking his Diploma at Perugia Conservatory with Fernando Sulpizi, subsequently specialising in Siena in Città di Castello. He now teaches at the Perugia Conservatory after teaching in Avellino, Adria and Pesaro.

Since 1980 he won numerous composer competition. In 1995 his poem for orchestra "Il Cantico dei Cantici" was prized to the Bologna's Competition "2 August". In 1990 the RAI partaked to XLII Prix Italia (Palermo - September) with Pedini's Predica agli Uccelli for soprano, piano, synthesised voice, tape and orchestra (RAI Turin Symphonic Orchestra, conductor Vittorio Parisi) on a text by Lucio Lironi and Claudio Novelli. In 1993 again the RAI broadcast commissioned his Dramatic Oratorio Il Mistero Jacopone (the story of Jacopone da Todi, the greatest Italian poet before Dante Alighieri) for four voices, baritono, medieval instruments, coro and orchestra (Orchestra Sinfonica della RAI, conductor Karl Martin, voice of Jacopone Mario Scaccia).In 2004 the Arena di Verona Foundation commissioned and performed the Ballet "L'anima del Perugino".In 2005 his "Requiem" for choir, organ and strings was performed at Kusatsu Summer Festival (Japan).In 2007 his "Magnificat (grande)" for Children choir and instruments was performed in Milan at "La Scala Theater".

In 1996-2003 he was Artistic Director of Sagra Musicale Umbra, one of the oldest and known Festival in Europe. Works he commissioned or organized the world premiere of include: "Songs of Milarepa" by Philip Glass (1997), "Grido" by Ennio Morricone (1998), "Concerto-cantata de Perugia" by Leo Brouwer (1999) and others.

Since 2004 until 2005 he was composer in residence for the “Sagra Musicale Umbra” Festival. His musics are performed and broadcasted in several countries (Italy, France, Germany, Sweden, Greece, Russia, U.S.A, Japan…) and are published by Casa Musicale Sonzogno, Milano.

He is known also as a painter.
