List of South Park adults

:"This is an article listing major adult characters. For more details on children characters, see South Park children. For more details on minor characters, see List of minor characters on South Park."

The following are fictional recurring adults from the animated series, "South Park".

Family members

Randy, Sharon, and Grampa Marsh

Randy and Sharon (originally "Carol") Marsh are the parents of Stan, and his exceptionally violent sister Shelley.Sharon Marsh is a receptionist at Tom's Rhinoplasty and Randy is a geologist. During his younger years Randy was a member of a briefly successful boy band "Ghetto Avenue Boys" and retains a penchant for singing and dancing. Randy frequently displays impulsiveness and irrationality, summed up well in the ability to take something 'too far', time and again. There are several episodes in which he features as a main character. He tends to be a leader in one of the groups of citizens when they protest or fight each other, usually the side representing the "Democrat" point of view (i.e I'm A Little Bit Country).

"Grandpa" Marvin Marsh is the elderly patriarch of the Marsh family, and lives with the Marsh family. He is 102 years old and confined to a wheelchair. He is somewhat senile and calls Stan "Billy". He has been referred to as both Sharon and Randy's father.Fact|date=March 2008

Gerald and Sheila Broflovski

Sheila Broflovski is a staunch supporter of censorship and political correctness, frequently taking to the streets to protest in the name of her children against influences she views as "corrupting". Since she rarely takes any attention away from her personal crusades to actually monitor the material to which her children are exposed, her efforts rarely have any effect on the boys' behavior. Sheila is the founder of Mothers Against Canada in "" and the official establisher of "National Conjoined Twin Myslexia Week" in the episode "Conjoined Fetus Lady".

Gerald Broflovski is a lawyer who is shown to be opportunist, helping everybody sue the school district in "Sexual Harassment Panda". He is also a friend of Nate Bullard, and is somewhat less adamant about ethics than his wife, probably due to her domineering nature. He has a lifelong but suppressed dream of becoming a dolphin, and temporarily becomes one in episode 901, "Mrs. Garrison's Fancy New Vagina". He observes the tenets of Judaism traditionally. In "Spontaneous Combustion", it is shown that he cannot get an erection, until he sees three young women take off their clothes implying that he finds Sheila unattractive.

Liane Cartman

Cartman's mom, Liane Cartman, is famous in South Park for being sexually promiscuous. She was at one point the featured model on the cover of "Crack Whore Magazine". Young Eric denies this allegation made by Stan and Kyle in many episodes. In South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut it was revealed that she takes part in German 'scheiße movies'. It was revealed in the episode Cartman's Mom is Still a Dirty Slut, that she is a hermaphrodite, and is actually Cartman's biological father. The identity of Cartman's biological mother has never been revealed.

The McCormicks

Kenny's family, the McCormicks, are exceptionally poor, and are depicted as being stereotypical "white trash". A typical daily meal in this family would consist of frozen waffles with no side dishes. Kenny's father, Stuart, was a high school friend of Gerald Broflovski. He is an alcoholic, a fact that Cartman never lets Kenny forget.Kenny's mother, whose first name has never been mentioned, was only sixteen years old when she had Kenny. The McCormicks are too poor to buy and own a house, instead living in a run-down shack that Stuart and Gerald built as a hideaway when they were teenagers.

tephen (formerly Chris) and Lynda Stotch

Stephen and Lynda Stotch are Butters' parents. They are most often depicted as harsh and authoritarian parents who will punish Butters for any misdemeanor, even things which are not his fault. (For example, in the episode Toilet Paper they attack Butters for confessing to TP'ing the art teachers house, when he hadn't - Butters defense that he was "shot up with sodium pentathol")

Lynda wears a maroon dress and has blonde hair, and displays a submissive personality. She is employed as an engineer. Stephen wears an olive drab shirt and a distinctive white tie, with a hairstyle similar to a grown-out crewcut. His appearance implies a military background of some sort, possibly explaining why Butters refers to him as "Sir". In Butters' Very Own Episode he was revealed as a closet homosexual (or bisexual), prompting Lynda to try and kill Butters before attempting suicide. The events have never been mentioned since, as the episode ended with Stephen (then named Chris) promising to resolve his "deviant" issues. In a later episode, Cartman, pretending to be Butters while talking to Stephen on the phone, called him 'queero.'

The Stotch's are also shown to be more than simply authoritarian - they are quite negligent as parents as shown in the 'Pre-School' episode. In this instance, the parents kick butters out of the house wanting him to 'go play!' despite his obvious fear of going outside because of Trent (a bully from his past). When he spots Trent and is terrified of being murdered, he tries desperately to convince his parents to let him back in with screams of 'Jesus he's going to murder me' and 'open the door!' His parents reaction is for his mother to say 'I can't stand to hear him screaming like that... I'm going upstairs.' Later in the hospital when the mother is distraught over the fate of her son, Stephens defense is 'now now honey, we were trying to read.'

Mr. and Mrs. Tweek

Tweek's parents own a coffee shop, called "Tweek Bros. Coffee", which might be a nameplay on Peet's Coffee and the term "tweaked" for someone who is hyper after consuming too much caffeine. Unlike Butters' parents, they aren't at all abusive, but their parenting skills aren't much better, as they claim (they may either believe or lie) that Tweek has attention deficit disorder, although his problems obviously stem from the fact he drinks too much coffee. Tweek's father, Richard Tweek, has a penchant for the extended use of metaphors for coffee. In the episode "Underpants Gnomes", he also sanctioned the use of children in political commercials to push his point of view. He also occasionally makes playful jokes that freak his son out.

chool employees

Chef (1997-2006)

Jerome 'Chef' McElroy was one of very few black characters in "South Park", and the chef at the South Park Elementary School. In the initial season, his gimmick line, as the four boys come into the cafeteria was "Hello there children!" They would respond with "Hey Chef." Chef would counter with "How's it going?" to which they would reply "Bad." Chef would then say "Why bad?" and Stan would explain that episode's issue. The first two lines are still used in later episodes, such as when the boys visit Chef at his house, where he is often entertaining a lady. A stereotypical character, Chef is obsessed with sex (especially with white women), and he is somewhat promiscuous. In Chef Aid, it's revealed that he committed bestiality with a goat. He is a talented singer, and has a tendency to sing wildly inappropriate songs when his muse strikes him. The children often seek him out when in need of guidance or information. He is voiced by Isaac Hayes. He refers to Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny as 'children' even if there is only one of them present. He once almost married a succubus, but the boys saved him. His parents live in Scotland, and his mother has a tendency to offer any problem that has a soul, "three-fiddy" or three dollars and fifty cents, mainly to the Loch Ness Monster.

In the episode The Return of Chef Chef became a pedophile and was eventually killed in a gruesome manner that not even Kenny has come close to experiencing. This is because Chef's voice actor (Isaac Hayes), quit the show after his religion Scientology, was mocked in the episode Trapped in the Closet. At the end of the episode Chef was reanimated as Darth Chef and has yet to be seen again, although Darth Chef is a character included in the season ten opening as part of the crowd of townspeople in the background.

Mr(s). Herbert Garrison

For the first eight seasons of the series, Herbert Garrison was known as Mr. Garrison but in season 9 underwent sex reassignment surgery. The character is thereafter known as Mrs. Garrison, despite being unmarried.

He's usually seen with a puppet called Mr. Hat, who was replaced twice, once by Mr. Twig, and later and more permanently by Mr. Slave. For the first three seasons, Mr. Garrison was the third-grade teacher at South Park Elementary School. In the fourth season he was suspended indefinitely for trying to solicit sex from Cartman, and afterwards he left the school to publish a sexually explicit romance novel titled "In the Valley of Penises" (a possible reference to Jean M. Auel's "The Valley of Horses", which was also very sexually explicit), but went into hiding after the book was "considered the best homoerotic novel since Huckleberry Finn". After he admitted his homosexuality, he tried to re-acquire his job as third-grade teacher but was turned down because the school did not hire gays. He was later rehired as the kindergarten teacher, where he enjoyed teaching sex education. By the end of the sixth season he was promoted to the fourth grade after the death of Ms. Choksondik. In contrast to the naïve majority of adults in South Park, Mrs. Garrison is one of the show's more cynical characters.

Mr. Mackey

Mr. Mackey is the school counsellor, well-known for his huge head and inserting "m'kay" into sentences. He has occasionally taught classes at the school, and taught sex education with Ms. Choksondik. During this time he had a sexual relationship with Ms. Choksondik until her death. After her death, he took over the fourth grade class until Mr. Garrison returned.

Mrs. Veronica Crabtree (1997-2004)

Veronica Crabtree was the school bus driver. She appeared to be suffering from paranoia, or at least was mentally unstable. She had a bird living in her hair and constantly screams "Sit down n' shut up!", or screeches "Be quiet back there!" or asked the children on her bus "What did you say?" after they insulted her. They would say something else that sounds similar in order to avoid trouble. Mrs. Crabtree was murdered by a serial killer in "Cartman's Incredible Gift".

Ms. Diane Choksondik (2000-2002)

After Mr. Garrison was temporarily suspended from teaching duties, he was replaced by Ms. Diane Choksondik (pronounced "chokes-on-dick", a bit of foreshadowing), who was most notable for her implausibly large, saggy breasts and one lazy eye. She also strongly resembles former Attorney General Janet Reno. Ms. Choksondik died in the middle of the sixth season, and Mr. Garrison eventually replaced her as the fourth grade teacher.

Nurse Gollum

Nurse Gollum is the school nurse with a fearsome reputation due to the fact that she has a dead fetus stuck to her head.

Principal Victoria

Principal Victoria is the principal of South Park Elementary School. She is indecisive and eager to avoid any controversy. She speaks with a strong Minnesotan accent.

outh Park townspeople

Big Gay Al

Big Gay Al is a stereotypical gay man. He runs an animal farm for gay animals who have been rejected by homophobic pet owners. He also appeared in "", entertaining U.S. troops. He sang the song 'I'm Super' whilst the kids tried to free Terrance and Phillip. He was banned as a Boy Scout leader for being homosexual, to be replaced by a 'macho man' who took nude photographs of the children. On November 2nd of 2005, Big Gay Al married Mr. Slave (Garrison's ex-boyfriend).

Dr. Alphonse Mephisto and Kevin

Dr. Alphonse Mephisto is a stereotyped mad scientist, who specialises in genetic engineering and, like Frankenstein, proceeds to create strange creatures without stopping to consider whether he should. Dr. Mephisto is based on Marlon Brando's character in the 1996 movie version of "The Island of Dr. Moreau". He may also be compared with Richard Attenborough, who plays the park owner who messes with nature from the trilogy of "Jurassic Park" films. He is also the father of Terrance who once competed against Kyle in a science fair project. There are rumors that the Mephisto character is based on UCLA microbiology professor Roger Bohman who teaches a popular course on AIDS awareness at the school.

Dr. Doctor

Dr. Doctor, the only (and incredibly superstitious) doctor in South Park and at Hells Pass Hospital (another doctor was seen in Pink Eye, but presumably didn't survive the events of that episode), often treats the kids of South Park after bullying. In his diagnosis, he often uses the kids' slang terms to describe their injuries such as "second-degree titty twister" (See List of school pranks).

Jesus

Jesus has - or had - his own cable access show in South Park, "Jesus and Pals". He has offered much sage advice to the boys, who have also discovered that all of Jesus' miracles were in fact rather clumsy sleight of hand, though he was seen performing genuine miracles in later episodes. However, in the sixth season Christmas episode, Red Sleigh Down, He was killed by an Iraqi soldier while protecting Santa and the boys, and has not appeared since; He was apparently killed permanently, but presumably He could be resurrected and appear in a later episode. He has been spotted in a crowd scene in the 100th episode, I'm A Little Bit Country. In Cartman's Mom Is a Dirty Slut, he was implied to have had a relationship with Ms. CartmanJesus can also be seen in the army, in the film South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut.

Jimbo Kern and Ned Gerblansky

Stan's uncle Jimbo Kern, Randy's half brother, and his sidekick Ned Gerblansky represent South Park's large population of stereotypical "hicks". They are obsessed with large trucks, beer, guns, explosions, and killing animals. They detest "liberals" and circumvent anti-hunting laws by yelling "it's coming right at us!" before shooting any animal, thereby justifying the kill as self defense.

Jimbo and Ned met while in the Vietnam War, where Jimbo was a helicopter pilot. During the war, Ned lost his right arm when a hand grenade exploded in his hand. Ned also lost his formerly mellifluous voice due to cancer, apparently caused by cigarette smoking, and is forced to speak with an electronic voicebox. Despite the fact that Ned lost one of his arms, he can still wield two-handed weapons, such as a flamethrower, and even an M249 SAW in "".

The name Jimbo Kern is a reference to 2 bullies from The Simpsons, Jimbo and Kearney.

Mayor McDaniels

Mayor McDaniels is the mayor of "South Park". Even though she is a Princeton University graduate, she is a largely incompetent politician and is mostly interested in getting good publicity for herself. Her two sycophantic aides usually tell her what to do.

The mayor often openly opines that she hates "South Park" and considers the people who live in it to be a collection of "brain-dead hicks". She hates Barbrady as well, but is largely stuck with him; however, it is implied that they have had some secret, rather unusual liaisons together (in Pinkeye and Summer Sucks). It is sometimes implied that she is a closet lesbian.

Mr. Hankey

Mr. Hankey, the "Christmas Poo," is the scatological counterpart to Frosty the Snowman, with the light-hearted flair of 60's-era Rankin & Bass holiday specials. He emerges from the toiletbowl on Christmas Eve and brings presents to boys and girls with high fiber diets. Mr. Hankey has appeared in at least three Christmas episodes, and inspired an actual retail CD ("Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics") in which he has his own theme song. In one episode he departed from the Christmas theme to drive a snooty annual ('anal' according to Mr. Garrison) film festival out of town with a tornado made of sewage. His trademark line is "Hooooooooowwww-dee ho!"

Mr. Slave

Mr. Slave is the former gay lover and sex slave of teacher Mr(s). Garrison. Mr. Slave was first introduced as a replacement for Mr. Garrison's beloved hand-puppet Mr. Hat, in an attempt by Mr. Garrison to get fired for being homosexual ("The Death Camp of Tolerance"). In the episode Follow That Egg!, Mr. Slave and Big Gay Al get married, to the frustration of Mrs. Garrison. Mr. Slave is often heard saying his trademark line, "Oh, Jesus Christ," as a response to events he has witnessed or as a general commentary on a particular situation.

Officer Barbrady

Until the seventh season, Officer Barbrady was the town's only policeman. Since then, the South Park police force has expanded to include other officers, such as Sergeant Yates and Policeman Brown. The police force motto on his squad car is, "To Patronize and Annoy". He is generally incompetent and stupid, not noticing even when Pip shoots a plunger in his head.

Priest Maxi

Priest Maxi (also known as Father Maxi) is a Catholic priest who serves as the mouthpiece for South Park's Christian community. He is a narrow-minded and intolerant man who is convinced most people are going to be damned to Hell, often for trivial offenses. In one episode he bluntly claimed that Timmy would go to Hell, since Timmy cannot confess his sins, as he cannot speak anything fluently. Although he is supposed to be celibate, he has had sexual relationships with both men and women.

ergeant Louis Harrison Yates

Sgt. Lou Yates is an inept Irish-American police officer who first appeared in the 7th season episode "Lil' Crime Stoppers," although he was only shown as a background character. He had his first speaking role in "Christian Rock Hard," where he showed the boys what happens to musicians when people download music for free from the Internet.

Towelie

Towelie is a sophisticated, high tech towel. His action is mostly limited to giving towel advice, 'Don't forget to bring a towel', and getting high. Although proclaimed by Cartman to be the "worst character ever," he became instantly popular with South Park fans. He is often quoted, and Comedy Central was quick to release Towelie merchandise. He was created as a satirical character based on corporate-created characters in an effort to sell merchandise (who usually spout catch-phrases and abuse drugs in an effort to be recognised as 'cool'). Ironically he had this same effect as a corporation-created fad. He has a small amount of experience with playing the guitar, although he may become high before this, and not play so well.

Tuong Lu Kim (City Wok Guy)

Tuong Lu Kim runs City Wok, a Chinese restaurant, which is apparently the only one of its kind in South Park. The restaurant first appeared in episode #602: "Jared Has Aides". He is married to a Chinese woman named Wing, fashioned after and played by the singer; she was smuggled into the country by the Chinese Mafia. He dislikes "Mongolians."

Other

Nellie and Thomas McElroy

Thomas and Nellie McElroy are occasional characters. They are the parents of the late Chef and are both voiced by Trey Parker. They live in Scotland, in a manor house by moorland, and have not only seen the mythological Loch Ness Monster, but claim to be constantly harassed by him; for some reason, he keeps asking them for $3.50 ("tree-fiddy"; their catchphrase). In fact, almost all of their stories involve the monster.

Like Chef, Thomas usually refers to any number of children as "children", even when he should say the singular "child". Nellie has a shaman-esque healing power, demonstrated when she and Thomas perform an exorcism to free the spirit in "Biggest Douche".

Chef's parents can be seen briefly in "Red Sleigh Down".

addam Hussein

Voiced by Matt Stone, Saddam Hussein is a recurring character on "South Park", though his experiences on the show in no way parallel the real dictator's life. In fact, he is said several times to actually be already dead; the manner of his death is unclear, as the various descriptions of his demise which have been included on the show starkly conflict with one another.

anta Claus

In addition to God and Jesus, Santa Claus also has a recurring role in the series, appearing in the Christmas episodes. He and Jesus once had a seeming rivalry going, but by Red Sleigh Down, they had evidently patched things up. He is often portrayed as a gun-toting, vigilante hero. He is voiced by Matt Stone.

atan

In addition to Jesus, Satan the Prince of Darkness is also often seen on "South Park," though he actually lives in one of the few places worse than the town (Hell). Apparently, Satan is gay, though he also has a son named Damien. Satan has had relationships with Saddam Hussein, most particularly in "" and the Do the Handicapped Go To Hell?/Probably fourth-season religious story arc. He also had a boyfriend named Chris afterwards, but left both of them in an attempt to find himself. He later seemed to have a boyfriend named Kevin, but broke up with him too.

Terrance and Phillip (1997-1999) (1999-present)

The children of South Park watch a cartoon called 'The Terrance and Phillip Show'. This popular Canadian cartoon is about two Canadians, Terrance and Phillip, who believe farting is funny. The comedy sketches on the show involve a character farting, possibly on the other's head, and then both laughing. Their hobbies include dressing up as pirates and searching for treasure in public places, such as the subway. When they are not looking for treasure, they are saving Canada or eating Kraft Dinner, pronounced Kroff Dinner in Canada.
